About Hypnosis

The word Hypnosis comes from the ancient Greek word for sleep.

Used since ancient times, hypnosis has developed as a medical science in the 19th century.  Today, it’s progression into the medical mainstream continues, because when it comes to changing thoughts, feelings and behaviours, hypnosis works.

Hypnosis is an altered state of mental and physical awareness, which occurs when the brainwave frequency slows down.

It is an entirely natural state of relaxation of the body and mind and one that we all experience frequently, when we daydream, and at least twice a day, just before and after we sleep.

Many people believe that they will struggle to be hypnotised.  This belief is born out of the notion that there is something magical about hypnosis.  Some people believe that only gullible or unintelligent people can be hypnotised.  These people do not realise that they have experienced states very similar to hypnosis many, many times.

DepressionIf you have ever drifted off whilst thinking about a someone, or become totally engrossed in a book or project that you haven’t noticed someone walk into the room, then you have been in an altered state of awareness very similar to Hypnosis.  These are examples of perfectly natural states of mind, where the mind is concentrated so carefully on one thing that it automatically slips into an altered state of awareness.

The difference between these sorts of altered states and hypnosis is that a hypnotherapist uses this altered state of mind to achieve a desired outcome.

During hypnosis, you are focused on the sound of the hypnotherapists’ voice, to the exclusion of all other stimuli.  A relaxing, calming tone of voice, along with carefully worded and constructed suggestions, helps you to reach a deep state of relaxation.

During this deep state of relaxation, the body and mind rejuvenates – it is very usual to waken from the hypnotic state feeling elated, as if one has experienced a very relaxing night’s sleep, even though the hypnosis may have lasted less than half an hour.  Also, the enhanced focus enables your mind to be open to suggestion and it is during the hypnotic state that we are able to apply hypnotherapy.

About hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy involves talking directly to your subconscious mind, often dealing with issues or challenges that you are not consciously aware of.  With your critical mind disengaged, new ways of behaving are accepted without question. You stop asking if you can achieve something and instead you are able to access your internal resources to enable you to achieve what you desire.

Deep down, you already know how much you can achieve.  Hypnotherapy can give you access to that self belief Alpha Banner
