Dispelling the myths about hypnosis
If the word Hypnosis conjures up an image of a bearded man bearing a pocket watch, think again. Whilst concentrated focus on a swinging watch (or indeed anything) can induce a hypnotic state, modern day hypnosis does not require the use of gimmicks.
If the word hypnosis conjures up an image of your mate at Blackpool chewing on a raw onion, again, think again. Stage hypnosis relies on the subject complying 100% with the hypnotist’s suggestions and it bears no resemblance to the therapeutic work of a professional hypnotherapist.
Within a hypnotised state, you will never do anything that you don’t want to do, or that conflicts with your core beliefs and values. In fact, all suggestions will strengthen and build upon your core beliefs, enabling you to use your strengths to your benefit.
Throughout each session, you remain entirely in control. You are likely to be able to hear the therapist’s voice and be aware of events around you, meaning you can react immediately if you need or choose to.
Your ability to be hypnotised does not relate to your mental state, intelligence, or any other factor. Everyone can experience hypnosis. If you don’t want to be hypnotised, you won’t be, if you do, you will. There are many different techniques, suitable for all types of people, so there will be one that works well for you.
You may remember what is said to you during hypnosis, or you may not, either is completely normal. Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are completely safe ![]()
