How does it work?
Your mind has two very distinct parts, the conscious and the subconscious.
It is the conscious mind that we are mostly aware of, and yet, this part of our mind comprises approximately 10% of our total mind. The subconscious mind comprises the rest and is therefore by far the most active and important part of our mind, yet we are rarely aware of it.
Our conscious mind controls our short term memory and it is where we plan and analyse information. It is critically analytical and it is conditional, that is to say that it will only accept a piece of information if it considers it to be acceptable. When we make a decision about something, we are engaging critical thought. All cognition is conscious.
Our subconscious mind is where we store our beliefs, our values, our feelings and emotions and these are much more significant to our reactions to people and situations than we realise. Many of the beliefs we hold, were initially embedded into our subconscious mind when we were very young.
Counselling and hypnotherapy helps us to manage the relationship between our conscious and subconscious mind. It firstly helps us to understand why we make certain decisions and then, once we are sufficiently relaxed, helps us to see how we might alter those decisions in future, in a way which is both comfortable and beneficial to us.
Hypnotherapy works on the bridge between the two parts of our mind. We may need to allow ourselves to realise quite how useful our subconscious can be, hypnotherapy can help us to do this ![]()
