Ms Garrie was an outstanding student throughout her training with the Academy both in the context of her understanding of the theory of counselling, hypnosis and hypnotherapy and her ability to apply the theory in practice in an effective and professional manner.

Ms Garrie was invited to participate in the Academy Master Hypnotherapy program which is conducted biennially and provides advanced training and intensive professional supervision to a select few of the most outstanding Diploma graduates from the previous two years. Again Ms Garrie was an outstanding student both in theory and practice and achieved the highest grading of her year receiving a high distinction for her thesis.

The regard that the Academy has for Ms Garrie is such that had she not returned to England she would have been offered the opportunity to take up a lecturing position with the Academy. Lecturing positions with the Academy are highly sought after and seldom awarded and are usually only offered to practitioners of considerable clinical experience and demonstrated acumen as clinical supervisors, teachers, trainers and assessors.

Ms Garrie has the theoretical insight and the practical ability to practice hypnotherapy effectively at an advanced level, the personal maturity and professional ethics to guarantee that she will provide consistently high quality service to her clientele and the intellectual capacity to contribute positively to the advancement of knowledge and skills in the field.

Richard M Porter, Managing Director, Academy of Hypnotic Science

I come from a business culture where people work under extreme pressure to deliver results in a hostile and constantly changing environment. So, I am reasonably adept at coming up with fixes myself! I had always been convinced that providing the right logical business solution for a business problem would equal problem solved. Wrong! Having got to know Tamsen over the last year or so, I understood what it was that she does, but I couldn’t see the application unless someone had a clear requirement for therapy (rather than just fixing ‘unhelpful stuff’ that affects most of us).

The sentence that had stuck in my mind from Tamsen was ‘the things that get in the way of people being successful’.

I had occasion to recommend someone to Tamsen, where logic failed. We knew the business challenges, I had provided the solutions, they could see the solutions would fix the problems, but they couldn’t act on them! And they weren’t difficult solutions! We sat one afternoon, and looked at each other, and we simultaneously decided to talk about the ‘elephant in the room’, which was that this person (whom I greatly like, admire and respect) was behaving completely illogically. They knew it, but couldn’t explain it either! I had been thinking about suggesting Tamsen for a while. This time I knew I had to ask her for help, and the person agreed when I explained about the ‘things that get in the way’.

They went to see Tamsen, who ‘did her thing’. The results were both instant and dramatic. It was like a dam giving way, allowing all the work we had done, and the person’s talent, skill and knowledge pouring into the business. It really was unbelievable, and still makes me smile to myself! The implications, in this situation, of not gaining Tamsen’s help were very serious for both this person’s business and my own.

Looking back to the extreme pressure culture, I could see a full time job for Alpha Associates just in that company, delivering solutions that most businesses try to work round, or cope with, or drive through, with more and more logical fixes that don’t work, while business is seeping or gushing away.
